When mine was a puppy I used the baby detangler on her and it worked great. Puppy hair can be difficult. I've used Pantene shampoo on both of mine and Suave Conditioner (Tropical Coconut) afterward.
It always worked fine. She smells all girly afterward. She has fine straight hair. I like the idea of the Old Spice on your boys though.
