I use it as directed. And sometimes you have no choice but to use it when they are close to it, like when they are right on top of me or next to me. I ALWAYS give the "quiet" command before I ever use it.

But if you look at the ratings on this item it is almost split down the middle. I looked on other review sites about it besides amazon. So some dogs it works some it doesn't..

Last night Pennie started barking at 2 am wanting something from one of the other dogs. She does this A LOT.. I told her quiet, she ignores me. so I pointed it at her said quiet and clicked the button, she stopped for a few seconds, I praised her..then she did it again, and we did the whole thing over again about 3 times before she finally shut up..LOL.. she is cute but this bossy voice of hers is going to stop! especially at 2 am...
