Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts. We are all safe and back to our oceanfront home.
It was a scary day, being awakened at 6:a.m. by sirens, then quickly packing some valuables, computers and most importantly my 5 doggies in the car. I decided to evacuate to my daughters house which is an hour away, but up-country. I made it across the pali just shortly before they closed the road; it was weird to see stores & gas stations closed, sewer & water pump stations were shut down too.
Anyway, we lucked out! It is a good reminder to have an emergency plan in place, and know ahead of time what you would want to take with you on very short notice. It took me a while to unpack the car and get online to update.
