Congrats on your new pup!
When we first got Bailey, we kept her confined to the family room (blocked off all exits and hiding places) and laid down old blankets for potty training. Blankets were washed after accidents - to remove the odor and save the carpet. Once she was potty trained, the blankets came up and she was gradually given access to the rest of the house as she earned it.
