Could you please provide me with the sources you have, that indicate that "breeders were trying to create a white yorkie" and that "they were throwing in a number of different breeds" (I'm guessing in order to achieve the white yorkie)?"
My research shows that there were breeders who were trying to promote the white yorkshire in the early 1900's. Other references do indicate, over and over, that the maltese was more than likely used to improve the coats of the broken haired scotch terrier (who later became known as the yorkshire terrier)... I've found no proof or writings that say "other breeds" were used in making
white yorkies, after they (the yorkshire terrier) actually became a breed.
