The possibility of a liver shunt came about when we took him in for blood work before getting him fixed to make sure everything was normal. The blood came back fine expect for his bio chemistrys which were very high (over 105) so I vet spoke with us and told us different options and recommended further testing at UCD for a possible liver shiny. We then read all the symptoms and signs online and he did not have any. The only thing is he is small
he is year and 3 months old and weighs 3 lbs but we just thought he is small. So we then took him from UCD and he had several test done. He had one blood test before he ate in a empty stomach then they fed him and after some time to let his food digest they took a second blood test. His first blood test showed his bio chemistrys very HIGH. His second blood test after he was giving food came out normal.
They also did a ultra sound and that looked normal. The vet brought a liver shunt specialist in and he said that he doesn't think their isn't a shunt. But they didn't know why his bio chemistrys were high. So that was a very long day at UCD for all of us. They wanted us to leave him that night to do the technisian scan but we said no because he
had so much anxiety already we didn't want to put him thru more stress. So now I am trying to figure what I should do an also get feed back from people who are fimiliar with this. So that is where I am now.
