I had VPI for almost 2 years before I dropped pet insurance altogether. After Chewie's first vet visit and neutering I was amazed at how much it cost, so I got VPI. The next time he went in for shots, etc. I paid then sent the receipt and all the paperwork in. The bill was $150 and they sent me $30.00. I had purchased the VPI plan that had all the works. A few months after that Chewie had to have tooth surgery because one of his baby teeth was still behind his adult tooth. That was about $200. VPI sent me $0 in return. They said it wasn't covered.
I read the fine print on his plan several times. I wrote VPI letters, etc. In my opinion pet insurance may not really be worth it. I paid about $35 a month plus the $120 or so dollars up front for VPI. I then only received $30.
