I have taken in a 13 year old male yorkie. I met his owner at the senior bldg where my Dad lives. She was living on very limited income and I offered to groom Nikki for her. As I became more friendly with her I found out she couldn't afford Nikki's rabies shot so I took him to her vet and got him up to date on his shots. He had terrible breath and the vet was able to look in his mouth and found he had severe dental problems. The vet said it would be 900.00 because he would have to build up under the gums or something like that. There was no way his owner could do this so the vet agreed to do it for 400.00 and Nikki had all his teeth pulled and the other work done. When he healed he was like a new dog, he was eating, had more energy and had great breath!! Nikki was found on the streets of Chicago 2 years ago and Carol adopted him from a rescue so we really don't know his history. Sadly 2 weeks ago I got a call from a neighbor that Carol was taken by ambulance to the hospital with a stroke. She is not doing well and will never be able to live on her own so I have taken Nikki in. I have taken him to visit her in the extended care facility a couple of times but she gets very upset and cries so her kids have asked me not to bring him up for now. So my 3 now have a big brother.
