I guess it depends on what you're wearing; I mean if you're wearing some pink, it might look like it's your handbag. I think an all black bag, would fool me the most, I see large black bags all the time, and I'm pretty sure someone's not sneaking a dog in them. You're lucky you don't have a little barker; I could never fool anyone with Joey, he always makes his presence known!
