I'd have to agree 100%. Yes you might be able to get them out after hours of work, but detangling is painful for your dog. You can also rip their skin. Yes you may not want to shave him, but he shouldn't have to go through all that because of what you want. Humanity before vanity. His hair will grow back! Then you have the opportunity to make sure you brush him with a pin brush and comb every other day to prevent the matting.
