Hah! Sometimes I feel like I spend more on my Yorkie than a child, so I think she should count as a dependent!

As for the tax lady, in her eyes, she was probably trying to be understanding. I know some people would rather lose the dog than continue to watch them suffer and have hopes lifted then dashed at every other vet appointment. But regardless, people shouldn't offer advice on such a sensitive situation unless they know you super well!
