You are on target. Friends were the best, and I am still in touch with many of them. Tarawa Terrace was not exactly resort living. I forget the name of the other Enlisted Housing area. When I was there, you could have bought a new home in Jacksonville for around $14,000.
There were no good restuarants....but we did head out to Wilmington on the weekends, or to Myrtle Beach.
