I have tried bitter apple and fooey which did work for a while but then she got used to it and they stopped having any effect. Perhaps I will look for a different type of washable pad. I really did not want to use washables as I hate putting them in my washer but I couldnt take the mess anymore. Thanks for all your input.
They sell a really thin washable pad at Petsmart. They are so absorbent, and you can use one pad many times before washing. Joey has little tootsie roll poops, so I just throw those in the toilet, and remember that urine is relatively sterile; no bacteria should be in it unless there is an infection. If you have a good washer you don't have to worry about anything, and you should NOT use bleach or fabric softeners, which can reduce the absorbency of the pad. I bought a 2 pack of the large, which are the best value, and one of the small. I really like the large, Joey seems to be able to find the center, and they are made from a nice material that doesn't show up the pee.
