We take 2 sets of keys for the car. If it is too hot or cold we will leave it running with the doors locked. We run into burger king or somewhere quick. This way we can park the car where we can see it.
We also take our baby gate. There is usually a small hall entering the room. We place the gate there just in case the door is opened.
Also check with hotel to make sure you can leave them there alone. Some are pet friendly but you can not leave them unattended.

great advice! Especially if you're taking a driving vacation. I would only leave my baby alone at night (probably one night) to go out to dinner. Not during the day though. I'm scared she'd get out when the maids come in, then lost, then stolen.
Wow, I've never heard of a beach that doesn't allow dogs. I guess the Texas beaches aren't that picky because I've seen dogs on them all my life. But then our beaches aren't that clean either with years of oil spills
