Drive from LA to TN?
I don't get your point. I paid, and will continue to pay if I ever have to take another flight. I do think it would be stealing to just take a pup, which is why my conscience would never ever let me do something like that. They do charge a crazy price though and demand a lot and then not bother to check. I understand the airlines are entitled to do whatever they want. Maybe I just had the strangest flight experience where no one cared that I had a dog with me. Maybe it was because it was the holidays, I don't know. If the fare was reasonable, I wouldn't of complained.
