I would try and leave him for short periods of time so he will get used to you leaving. When I say short periods, I mean like for 30 seconds, 1 minute. Just get him used to you going out and coming back in. While dogs have no concept in time, this will at least help alleviate his anxiety of you coming back. This helped mine tremendously as when I have come back into the room, they were off on the other side of the room playing with each other and then came running around the sofa again or they will just look up at me and wait for me to leave again.

We have an expen for ours, I don't know if this helps or not but we have it in the room that we spend all of our time. can you gate off part of the room that you are always in so at least he will have some familiarity when you leave? I have also read on here that someone has it so their dog can look out the window when they are gone. This helped them. Good luck.
