I just had this same question tonight when I was out walking my new rescue.. She weighs in at a whopping 3.5 lbs at 1.5 years old... I have a Mini Schnauzer that I researched, then bought from a reputable breeder who is the "best looking schnauzer" many of my friends have ever seen. Just because she is representative of the standard. When asked about my Yorkie, I tried to explain there is no such thing as a Teacup Yorkie...that it was only a money grabbing idea from irresponsible breeders, but frankly the general public will continue to believe what they are told by the beautiful websites and pet stores who make their money giving the public what they want...and not breeding for quality/health of the breed. This is a problem I think throughout the purebred dog world.
