Many of the breeders I do respect, say how they are constantly learning. I often encourage buyers to support only the best of breeders; those who breed to standard. I think buyers need to be aware that they are giving breeders a gold star every time they purchase a dog from them, you are saying you approve of this breeder, and what they are doing to the Yorkshire Terrier breed. Our rescues and shelters are filled with pets, if you just want a pet, I hope you go to a rescue or shelter, but if you really want to see that the yorkie is around 100 years from now, find a really good breeder and support him/her. |
Nancy I agree with you, to a point. I must reiterate. There is more to being a good breeder thsn just breeding for the standard. HEALTH must ALWAYS come first.
We would like to think that, that is a given, but it is not. there are breeders who will breed for looks without any concern for what is going on on the inside.
I'd much rather have a non-standard that is healthy than one who looks great but is not sound.
