My Bella started out doing the "happy dance" when I would start to pick her up ...I think she thought it was a game. Then I taught her to Sit - before I would give her one Cheerio. Her butt has to be on the floor. I pet her on the head with one hand and give her the Cheerio with the other. She became very familiar with this - I praise, praise, praise as soon as she sits. She gets a tiny treat, and I don't have to chase her all over the place to pick her up. I know this is a personality thing, because Mojo sees me start to pick him up, and he actually leans into it - he loves to be held or cuddled all the time. Good luck.
