I have a grooming DVD and have been grooming mine for over a year and from what I know, I use a #10 blade for close cutting of tummy's, fanny's and privates. Then I switch to the #40 to trim the v point of their ears and then you keep the #40 blade on when you put on the comb attachments to give them a schnauzer or puppy cut. Hope it helps some.
