Thank you Nancy for the congrats and the likely explanation for the behavior. That makes perfect sense to me.
Maximo allows me to pick up the puppy only if I carry them both at the same time and pick up Maximo first. This took a full day to achieve.
If I want to pick up only the puppy, Maximo attacks. Same thing when my father tries to pick up the puppy. We need to pick up the puppy to groom, and to try to solve the potty problems -- Maximo is guarding all of the piddle pads. Yes, Maximo's favorite things: his humans and his piddle pads.
