Confused Anyone one else have this problem?

So today I went out to breakfast with my mom. As I was leaving I put my baby in his crate because he's still young and I can't let him run the house by himself because he has an attraction for wires. Anyway, whenever I put him in his crate I always lock it then pull the door to make sure he can't just push the door open. I was gone for about 2 hours. When I got home he didn't bark like he usually does so I went to my bedroom (where I keep his crate with the door closed while I'm gone) and knocked on the door to see if he would bark. When I opened the door he ran up to the door. I was so surprised and didn't know how he got out of the crate. I'm not sure how long he was out of the crate but judging by how much he's sleeping I'd say not long after I left. My question is does anyone else have a problem with their little troublemakers escaping from the crate? And any advice on what i can do to keep him safe if he escapes again. He'll be 10 months on the 3rd.
