Teaching hospitals are wonderful! Don't let the student thing scare you...you can get great vet care at them. They don't do anything without supervision and usually by a VERY qualified vet!
I have been to Texas A & M a few times and had nothing but the best in terms of care for my pups! They saved the life of one of my pups...had he not had his surgery there I am convinced he would have died.
If it was cheaper at the one you used, it makes sense....but the student thing should not really play a roll in decision making imho. If you ever decide to get a second opinion and, since you are requesting copies of your MRI and records for some reason, I would strongly suggest you think about taking them there.
