Y'all seem to have some experience with CT........she is my 4th Yorkie and I haven't had any previous problems. I had her brother (3.5 lbs) and he died last year of congenial heart disease but her heart and lungs are fine. I am devastated. She is on antibiotics, cough suppressant and Temeril-P. My vet said there was another med for this but it only comes in 100mg and he could not calculate the dosage for a dog her size. Any advice is appreciated. |
Tell your vet to read his Vet Therapy book about CT! There are different medication options there that you have not mentioned. One is the use of Lomotil. I have personally had a pup on it and it did help. I also know of two other yorkies who responded well on it.
Main things to do: keep him as calm as you can and keep him out of humidity.
Alternating cough meds helped with my recent CT boy. We used Torb alternated with Hycodan. Also on bad nights, I had injectable Torb combined with Ace Pro and it really worked! It makes them loopy, but is enough to get that inflammation down so that they can relax and breathe better.
Good luck. Honestly, my experience is that in the end it will get them...the heart can only take so much; but you can buy some quality time for them with good medical management.
