Do you know how badly I would feel if your puppy got sick before the purchase? I would give the deposit back to you...another pup, whatever, your choice...why does the buyer bear the burden? Sometimes people are attached before they receive the pup and want to wait to grieve the loss...
I have only had one puppy that passed away with a deposit. She was super tiny...the "runt" of a litter. She had a reaction to her first set of vaccines at 12 weeks. The buyer was a repeat buyer and I was devastated, so were they. I called and cried my eyes out on the phone with them. It was not even discussed...I sent them back their check. There is no WAY I would keep a deposit from a puppy if it passed in my care, unless the buyer specifically asked me to do so and transfer it to another puppy...but the offer to get the deposit back would ALWAYS be there.
