Animal Smiley 036 celebrity dogs

I was searching for stars who have yorkies (because I have no life) and Brett Favre and Joan Rivers both have them. Then I found this short article. It's really nice.

“Take a lesson from the dog, man's [sic] best friend. He accepts us for what we are. He does not gossip about us behind our backs. His life is a perfect sermon on affection and devotion. He will run his legs off for you. He will submit to almost any hardship to make you happy. He will risk his life for you if necessary. If you are moody or unkind at times, he will forgive you. He will not complain if his food is scant. He will bear burdens without complaint. He is thankful for small favors. He does not sulk or nurse a grudge against you. His additional friends do not lessen his love for you. He does not question your dress or looks. He is not temperamental like we humans. His purpose is to please on all occasions. He does not bore us with his troubles. His thanks and appreciation are genuine...He does not pry into your private affairs. He never double crosses you. His is not to question why, but to do and perchance to die for you. He trusts you implicitly. He is a living symbol of faith, hope, and love. Yes, brother, he is a builder, for such a friend does something constructive to our character."

The 2005 Westminster Dog Show has ended and Carlee, the German short-haired pointer, is most likely resuming her normal, frisky life. After a whirlwind tour of numerous talk shows and her own paparazzi, the silver trophy winner can finally relax with her mama, Linda Stark as her competitive career has culminated with the most prestigious of awards. Although Carlee is retired from the arena she will always have her celebrity status as the 2005 Westminster Champion.

Sitting with my two Yorkies I cannot help but wonder if the life of a celebrity dog is compromised or blessed. With the recent headlines about Paris Hilton’s beloved Tinkerbell missing (to be returned after a $5000 reward was offered) and Britney Spear’s housebreaking woes, not to mention the scuffle that is ensuing as a result of the recent admission on Britney’s website that her dogs are “cuter than Tinkerbell.” Is Hollywood having a doggie scuffle? Tinkerbell Hilton even has her own book. Although satirical in nature, it’s a money-making book of adventure.

Most of us “non-celebrities” and fellow dog lovers are constantly reminded that Jessica Simpson’s Maltese mix travels in a very expensive designer carrier. Tori Spelling’s dogs wear diamond collars and most celebrity dogs have their own closets full of designer sweaters, collars, boots and outerwear. Our obsession with celebrity fashion is traversing into doggie fashion. It is not at all uncommon to see celebrities and their companions in matching sweaters, coat and even jewelry.

I wonder if my Yorkies know they are not in designer clothes? Are they jealous of celebrity dog adventures and extravagant belongings? I’m willing to bet they are not and are quite content with the love and affection I give them, regardless of my non-celebrity lifestyle. I am uncertain of when exactly I began to realize that celebrities and their dogs were becoming more photographed and prevalent in magazines but it seems today they are everywhere!

But not all celebrities have embraced the lavish lifestyle for their pooches. For example, Diane Keaton has taken her love of animals to new heights and begun her own charitable organization – The “Have a Heart: Home 4 the Holidays” adoption program. It is refreshing to see celebrity doggie love being used as more than a fashion statement. The quote at the beginning of this article so eloquently describes the life of a dog and the unconditional love he gives, regardless of income, status or how many designer sweaters he owns!

Dogs are invaluable friends and the life of a celebrity dog may be filled with glamorous outfits and diamond collars but no amount of cute outfits or sparkling jewelry can compete with a lick on the face or a cheerful greeting after a long day of work.
