If you know someone it's really not that hard. I worked on a Mercedes commercial before, and my friend from school was hired by the main wardrobe/stylist. They needed another person and she just called me and the next three days I had a job. I lost contact with her, but she is more of a stylist, and I want to do actual costume design, not just shopping and dressing people.
Anyway, I"m having fun with what I'm doing now. I do the stuff I like, and don't do the stuff I don't.
