I would recommend an ex-pen at least until you know better how Nikki is going to fit in with your household. He will be less likely to mark if he's confined and it will allow him to interact with your family before being turned loose completely.
With my fosters I always confine them to an ex-pen at first. I think it makes them feel more secure to have an area of their own.
