Well I think the fee depends on the fee you want to pay. Most people would not consider $500 to be very high, some would find it to much. The fee you want to pay is totally up to you.
We found an older Yorkie (1yr) to adopt from a wonderful family for less than that but it wasn't about the $ for me it was about the precious doggie. I have even seen a few Free ones on there but of course those are few and far between.
I would say that if he had 3 originally he most likely is a backyard breeder and you don't want one of his pups. Your best bet on a place like Craigslist is to find an older dog that needs rehoming. Most young pups belong to BYB's. Also when you are looking don't get caught up in the price or how bad you want one. Wait until you find the perfect fit for you and your family.
