We had a water bottle in Bandit's crate when he was a puppy. It was partly due to him always tipping it, and it taking up so much room, and more due to my irrational fear that he would somehow drown while we were out
Now they have water bowls that screw into the side of the crate so they are off the ground, and secure so they can't be tipped (or drowned in
). They're great!!
