It has been my eperience, if they are nice and warm they will lay sweparate, they huddle together if they are chilly. I put a heating pad under
only half of the bed, so if they get too warm, they can get away from the heat, and also so Momma does not have to lay on the heating pad, she is always too warm anyway.
