Actually, if you're outside (not in the backyard) he should be on a leash, which means it should be very easy to catch it. If its a backyard, then take out on a leash. I recommended this to a client who had a marking Shih Tzu and it helped her a lot. Dogs have a hard time understanding "no don't do that" It has to be "no don't do that, do this instead" So it gives an alternate. "Don't mark here" "Mark here instead"

Edit: If it helps, I'm an accredited Dog Trainer, so I know everything doesn't work for everyone. But trying is a lot better than nothing at all right?!
