Very good point.
I'm finding that my dog goes into his tent or small kennel to nap when I leave the room for more than a few minutes. He probably feels more secure that way.
Also, I keep the hall doors shut so that he cannot access the living room/dining room/front foyer unless he is supervised. I recently started opening the doors to try to teach him to "stay" and wait for me at the bottom of the stairs. He doesn't wait; he goes back into the great room where he is usually limited to during the day -- and where he must feel safe.
