I just got my yorkie, but a couple things came to mind when I was in a situation like this last week:

- All my windows are tinted 5%, besides the windshield which is at 35%, so yorkie sees out, no one sees in.
- Most modern cars disable current flow to the 12V power socket (the 'cigarette lighter' socket) when the engine is off, so I took the time to hardwire a switch in from my battery into the cabin, which directly powers his heat pad (and the rest of the cabin, since it's wintertime)
- Air flow into the cabin is circulated by leaving the defrost on before shutting off the engine.
- I foam-padded my interior so as to reduce road-noise (a little overkill in a Q7), but that works both ways, so no one can HEAR my yorkie, either.

Really in this scenario the only difference between leaving my yorkie home or in the car is that someone can break into the car. But then again Audi's theft deterrent systems work very well, plus people can break into homes just as easily as cars, not to mention my little friend gets to watch people outside!
