Solve using the elimination method:
4u - 3v = 1
3u + 4v = 6
Find u and v.
I have the answer with solution manual, but they want you to start at a certain point and only explain it if you pick their number to start at (if I didn't have the manual, I wouldn't know where they wanted me to start...).
So, I multiplied the top of 4 to get:
16u -12v = 4
and the bottom by 3 to get:
9u + 12v = 18
Now we get:
25u + 0v = 22
25u = 22
u = 22/25
Now substituting 22/25 in for u in the first equation, we get:
4(22/25) - 3v = 1
4 x 22/25 = 88/100 or 22/25
22/25 - 3v = 1
-3v = 1 22/25
Dividing by -3v, we get:
v = 1 22/25 divided by -3
Changing 1 22/25 to an improper fraction:
47/25 divided by 3
When dividing fractions, don't ask why, just flip the sucker and multiply:
47/25 x 1/3 = 47/75
Or in case I flipped the wrong one

:
25/47 x 3/1 = 75/47
The book is saying my value for u is correct, but not v.
What in the heck am I doing wrong???
