While the pup is in the act of sitting (or whatever command you give), you click and give a treat. They learn really quickly that click = treat and are extremely eager to do what you've asked.
In the beginning, you click and treat for every successful behavior. Eventually, after your pup has learned all that you are wanting to teach, you begin reducing the amount of treats but still use the click on every success.
