Question Anyone else been told...

... that their pet is much better behaved when they are not around?

I've been told many times by various vets, groomers, daycare workers and office cleaning people that Thor is a little angel when I'm not there to witness it.

I went to the vet today, and of course Thor was acting all melodramatic, shaking, whining, struggling and scratching if I got more than 6 inches away from him. He's 4 lbs and the vet tech couldn't get him to sit still enough to weigh him. The tech took him into a back room and popped back in to tell me that in a different room, Thor sat right down on the scale and helped the tech take notes on the readout. Okay, kidding about the last part, but the tech and vet both said that pets tend to be much calmer when their owners are not there.

Whenever I drop Thor off at the groomer, he acts like I'm leaving him there to die, but when I pick him up, he comes out with the groomer like they are BFFs.

I'm also fortunate enough to take Thor to work with me. He usually sleeps on my desk, and he does not like to jump down, so his movement is pretty limited. If a cleaning person is unlucky enough to come in to take the garbage, Thor barks and growls. Sometimes I step out to grab dinner, and I'll leave Thor on my desk where he can't really harass anyone. Multiple cleaners have told me that if they come in when I'm not there, Thor is perfectly friendly.

The thing is, Thor is generally pretty obedient with me - I started clipping his nails a few months ago, and he's pretty cool about that, for instance. If he gets mats, he'll sit still and let me brush them out. He prefers to be with me, but he doesn't get particularly upset if I leave him alone for a few hours. So yeah, just wondering what that's all about.
