When I was a vet tech - if we spayed any during heat which was very rare - the females will bleed more during surgery is correct. The area is swollen, thus the vessels are larger allowing more blood to flow. My vet would prefer to wait this the heat is over with. It is mess. We used a heat surgerical instrument to close off the vessels to prevent more bleeding.
