Ice/Ice or The Stuff w/ water when you have tangles. Instead of a slicker or breaking the coat, work w/ it in the fingers to remove a matted area to save coat. I've you have a good coat it should be good with shampoo and conditioner. Nothing else should be needed. Less is better. |

Yes, primarily something to brush with between baths since I read many times here that the golden rule is "never brush a dry coat and never comb a wet coat." I prefer to use fewer products, so I'm glad to read that less is best.
We don't have matts, just the occasional tangle after playing rough on carpet, etc. As you suggested, I always use fingers to detangle first, then carefully work with a comb. I would never use a slicker -- I don't like them.
Several show people here have written that they don't brush too much between baths so as not to overwork the coat. I have to brush Maximo daily because he is a rough and tumble boy, and his grandpa always makes a mess of him.
