If you have a fenced yard and predators aren't a problem, let him loose. I'd just keep an eye on him and not let him stay out too long at night.

If there's a chance of him getting out of the yard, don't take it. Even the best-mannered Yorkies can bolt if they see something they want more than you.

Eddie goes to the door when he wants out. I let him out and then check in 5 mins. Worst he's done is bring in a muddy bone that he'd buried outside.
