Well, if he has plenty of substitutes to chew on, perhaps it is a pica; this is where there is a craving for non-nutritive substances. Sometimes, it's caused by an iron deficiency anemia secondary to hookworm infection. So you might want to get him checked. Pica is also seen in obsessive-compulsive disorders, and behavior therapy can be use to treat this. Cesar did an episode where a dog went nuts over rocks.
