Hi! Try using a gel to start training the hair. I use Pet Silk Top Knot Gel. If you look around you can find it cheaper but here's the link so you know what it looks like. It's made for dogs and doesn't get crusty like human gels.

Pet Silk oz jar&start=1

Put the band/barette closer down towards the eyebrows instead of on their forehead - just untils the hair starts to grow - then you can gradually move the band/barette up further.
