I train to the outside, and I can say with confidence...the key is to take them out a LOT. My Zoey wasn't fully housebroken when I got her at just a couple weeks past a year old, last March. I took her out probably once an hour (during the day) for the first couple of weeks we had her. She's been perfect.

I think the key is to never give them the opportunity to screw up...and tons of praise and hallelujahs every time they do the tiniest squirt. I don't do treats for this...just figurative handstands and cartwheels, lol.
I completely agree! I didn't use the book, but I can honestly say that Harley was trained to go outside within 2 weeks of getting her, so at the age of 14 weeks. She always comes and lets me know when she needs to go out, and will hold it if we're not home. Thank God! But I definitely agree with the remark above bolded in red. This is what I did.... I wore myself out with it, because she was never left unattended, and I watched for the signs of having to go potty, but it worked and she will be 1 year old in 23 days. She has had 2 accidents throughout the entire time I've had her, and they were both during the first 2 weeks...I know that's unbelievable, but honest to God, she's 100% potty trained. She even goes out when it's raining and doesn't mind at all.

It's possible, just have to be consistent!
