Our german shepherd 5 month pup was toilet trained in about 10 days and she was only 7 weeks old when we got her.
Alfie was 10 weeks when we got him and he is 4 months now. He was clean during the night from day one but had some accidents during the day. He does his pee pee and poopies outside. We are just about there with the day time now too but he did leave me "a present" the other day so unfortunately i still can't say he is toilet trained yet.
I'd try and sell the book on ebay and put the money towards some puppy pads
