After reading your post, my first thoughts were to tell you to run to the nearest exit sign!
However, after listening to more of your comments about his behavior, I think the comment by your X was more of a insecurity issue with him. Maybe his statement was made more for HIS behalf than yours. Sounds to me like he does not want you going out on the prowl for other men, but wants you for himself; and the only way to do this is to encourage thoughts in you of NOT being able to get someone else who accepts your little ones.

For whatever reason though, I would definitely communicate to him that you are a package deal. No ifs, ands, or buts!
Whoever YOU choose, [and the operative term here is YOU] to be with, will accept your two best friends as well!!

You have the upper hand here as far as I can see. Keep it that way.
