I keep my breeding females on puppy food. Please be careful about overfeeding, you can wind up with a fat girl who has a difficult whelping. Be sure she eats a quality dry kibble...believe it or not I have fed nothing but high quality dog food for 9 weeks and had litters of 5, 6 and 7 fat pups..and mom was well filled out after whelping.
The diet after whelping is very different for my girls then before. |
What Pat said is excellent. Even with a quality dog food, my vet recommended the calcium suppliments and I've followed that advice.
