I had always owned two until four years ago when I lost one to heart disease. I now have one who is her son and circumstances won't allow me to get another. Sam will be last for a very long time

IMO there are advantages to having both one and more than one. When you have more than one, they have company of their own kind, they play more and I guess life is generally more interesting for them. Owning just one, I think they tend to bond even more with you and they also are alot quieter and calmer in general. They of course absolutely LOVE the attention they have of being the only one but miss the companionship etc. For those who think they won't love another the same way as they do the one they already have Believe me you will.
