You should look at getting an xpen to confine her to one room...does she use pads or go outside? 12hrs is a long time for her to hold it... during the day make sure she has plenty of toys to play with..also consider leaving a radio or tv on...it works for my lil one...
With regards to getting a 2nd dog...IMO you should hold off...you don’t sound like you're ready and I've learned from this site not to get another dog unless you're REALLY ready...don’t get another one just to keep the other dog happy...two dogs is a lot of work and double everything...food, toys, vet, etc....
Congrats on your move to SF...I live about 20 min away from the city...
