You said "when I think he's gone?" Are you watching him and making certain that he has gone before you bring him in? Keep up with the bell, rewarding him, and make it a really big deal and get super excited when he has done well and make over him like he's the best lil guy in the world. He will get it.
Are you helping him ring the bells on the door each and every time you take him out? They usually get that really fast.
He's young yet, so don't give up. Just be consistent. |
I try to take him out every time, but sometimes I have to send him out by himself and then I watch him from the window if I'm busy. As for the bell, I rang it myself for the first week and said "Go potty!" Then the next week I tried to lift his paw to ring the bell himself and he thought I was playing every time. Then I tried to tap his nose on the bell, but that didn't work either. I just went back to ringing it myself, but that is not getting through to him. We've been doing this for about three months now. Maybe I should get a different kind of bell and start over with him? Or, do you think that he is just not going to get it? I mean it has been 3 months! LOL!
