I think that it is possible that the reason why they have accidents 10% of the time could actually be caused by the scent in the existing carpet.

I guess it's hard to know for sure until you replace the old carper, which is certainly a dilemma.

My Bailey was doing well with his litter box, and than he started having 50% accidents for few days straight! I was pretty upset and didn't know what happened. I have hardwoods in my house and I usually just wipe the spot where he missed.

So I decided to wash the entire floor really well with some vinegar in the water to take out the scents and right away it fixed the issue, - he was back to going on to his litter box like he did before with fewer accidents. You are lucky that your two girls go outside, I will be trying to train my little man to do that too!
